The Kettlebell Slam…Kettlebell training for MMA?

“A Kettlebell Training Exercise Video by Martin Rooney!”

This kettlebell exercise is just plain awesome. I’ve always been a fan of thinking outside the box during kettlebell training and love to intergrate advanced, non-traditional movements into our training programs.

This is, of course after the basics have been mastered.

This Kettleebll Slam exercise is brought to you by Martin Rooney of “Training for Warriors.”

Martin travels the world working with coaches and athletes specializing in MMA/Combat Sport Conditioning.

Have fun with this one!

  2. That’s awesome I’m going to do this on the beach.

  3. Awesome Dale. My grass is already messed up. Have fun.Throw in some sprints.

  4. Awesome Andrew. Just how chilly? NH is beautiful.

  5. Chilly enough. When are you making your way out this way again? There is a large group of KB and MMA folks out in the seacoast area here.

  6. Andrew,

Hopefully before the new year. In December. I’ll keep you posted and thanks for your interest in our programs.

  7. Way to go! Abuse that kettlebell!

  8. Jeff Blanchard

Sick exercise! Gotta try it in the quad out front of my apartment and scare the neighbors.

  9. We use MBall/Power bag so we don’t mess up the lawn :) same thing get to drive through the entire movement.

  10. Rich Rack

Love it! Awesome power move. Keep em coming Jason.

  11. How is this any different than slammig 30lb medicine ball slam into the ground. Ive been doing med bAll slams for years same effect and it doesnt fuck up the Ground

    Spida and Brandon,

I’ve done with med balls and D-balls for years now also.

My med balls dont’ survive too long doing this drill. Even my D-balls have all broken down.

The difference Brandon also is that teh medball rebounds for you. On the kettlebell slam you are responsible for the rebound/or hip extension.

    Unless you’re using a d-ball as I staed above.

All 3 are great drills none-the-less.

  13. Love the pure ferocity of this one – I don’t think you can get that with a med ball; possibly slightly shorter ROM as well with an MB.

Regardless, this one definitely wins in bad-ass points. When I get out of the concrete jungle in NYC, the first thing I’m gonna do is combine some front squats, these slams, and 400m runs. Can’t wait!
